How to get more clients for your fitness business.
The health and fitness industry is booming but increased demand is only beneficial when you know how to capitalise on it.
Increasing competition, seasonal trends, and changing routines can make growing your client base challenging. Often, finding and securing new clients can fall to the wayside when your main priority is to keep your business running.
Unfortunately, for businesses that want to grow, the impact of not having the time and energy to run your marketing will almost always impact your ambitions at some point.
So we’ve pulled together a summary of how we help gyms and personal trainers build their client base through digital ads.
Direct conversion
If you have a promotion or want your clients to sign up there and then, these can be a direct route to building out your client base.
Newsletter sign ups
If you use a newsletter then running ads to increase your following can be a great way to capture an audience that you can look to convert in future.
Awareness
If your audience doesn’t know about you then they can’t become a client. This can be a cheaper way of ensuring that your local audience are familiar with what you do.
3 ways to grow your clients
So how do you do it?
01
The first step in any marketing campaign is to understand who your ideal customers are and where you can reach them. It’s likely that you already have a lot of data you can use to get a head start, like your social media following and customer database. For our fitness clients, we typically start by defining the geography and target demographic and building from there.
02
Decide what campaign objective you want to run, we've highlighted 3 of our most used above which can all be a good starting point depending on your goals.
03
Build some compelling creative! This often can be the most challenging so we advise to begin with your existing creative to start with. We often find that repurposing content that has worked well on your social media can be an effective way to create good ads and save on resources. In the health and wellness sector, client testimonials and welcome offers can be a great message to build an ad around.
Platforms
Facebook & Instagram
Still the giant of the social media world and the most sophisticated in terms of targeting and format options available. Through either video or impactful imagery you can get your message across exactly how you want to.
Social media advertising is great for engaging with a brand-new group of clients by seeking them out and making sure they are aware of who you are.
Once you've chosen your approach, you then need to decide how best to get your brand in front of them.
For health and wellness clients, we usually recommend the two platforms below to give you the best chance of success.
Platforms
If you were looking for a new gym, you’d probably Google it right? Well so do most people so this is a key channel to make the most of that captive audience.
The key difference between search engine marketing, commonly called PPC, and social media advertising is that with Google, you are reaching customers who are actively looking for what you offer. The key benefit here is that they are much more likely to click on your ad and engage with what you’re offering.

Important to consider

Frequently Asked Questions
See the most frequently asked questions about our services.
How soon will I see results?
Depending on your goals, you may see results fairly soon after setting your campaigns live. We do advise that you factor in a ‘learning’ period into your campaigns to allow the algorithm to optimise.
Am I locked into a contract?
As standard, we offer no minimum terms on our retainers. This allows both parties the flexibility to adapt as we go.
What’s the difference between ad spend and management fee?
Your ad spend is what you directly pay to the platforms to serve your ads. Agencies will charge a management fee outside of this to plan and execute those campaigns for you.
What platforms do you specialise in?
We have experience with and offer a service for all major ad platforms. The most popular tend to be Meta, Google, TikTok and Amazon.
Do you shoot and create fresh content?
We as an agency don’t currently offer raw asset production as a service but work with a range of partners who would be able to help if this was needed.
Do you offer a free trial?
Unfortunately not due to the work involved. We do however have no minimum terms on our retainers so if you weren’t happy with the results then you can look at pausing or stopping any activity when it suits you.
